I needed to have a hot water cylinder replaced as mine was leaking. Scott Baker's number was given to me on recommendation. I am a great believer in word of mouth. I appreciate that it was over the Bank Holiday and that he did fit us in over a busy period and he did do a good job. However, I know that I am not mistaken in the price that he quoted as I wrote it down as he said it. The price he quoted was £680-£700 and he said that he would charge less if he didn't have to drain the system down, after I told him that the tank was empty as I had turned the valves off and drained it down myself. I don't think he encountered any unexpected problems. I certainly wasn't expecting him to invoice me £885.25. People's reputations are built on trust, honesty and doing a good job and recommendation is a vital part of that. I do not feel that I will be able to recommend him to anyone knowing that he does not stick to his word. Obviously, my mistake was in not getting a written quote and I had assumed this was inclusive of VAT.
